Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever said medics responded to a few calls from folks who slipped while walking on ice and suffered injuries in the freezing weather last week. One of those who slipped fractured a bone, he said. Medics transported that patient to Austin. On Sunday morning, Vandever said ambulances responded to an unusually high number of calls for sick patients with a variety of illnesses, but he was unsure if the frigid weather played a factor. He said some area EMS agencies made changes to their transport policies in response to the icy conditions.

“We were certainly consious with transport decisions, but we maintained normal operations here,” Vandever said.
