I-10 Traffic Stop Leads to 11 Kilos of Cocaine
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Tuesday, May 16 around 7:50 a.m. Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on I-10 at the 668 mile marker eastbound near Engle for traffic violations. While making contact with the driver Smith observed several criminal indicators and obtained consent to search the vehicle. During the search a concealed compartment was located in the trunk floor area. Smith located 13 bundles in the compartment that tested positive for cocaine. Arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center was 22-year-old Joshua Joe Rosas of Rio Grande City, who was charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Assisting Smith at the scene was Drug Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 “Kolt”, and Deputy Herman Olvera. A total of 11 Kilos of suspected Cocaine with a street value of $385,000 was seized.
