Hurricane Harvey Buyouts Nearing Conclusion in LG
Fayette County Commissioners awarded bids for demolishing two of the last buyout homes on Country Club Drive just outside La Grange.
The County decided to purchase and demolish the homes on Country Club Drive that flooded during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 using federal grant funds. The Texas General Land Office administered the buyout grant, and the process has taken more than six years.
At their meeting last Thursday, Jan. 11, Commissioners voted unanimously to award the job to the low bidder, Straight Line Services of West Point. The cost will be $97,240 to demolish the large home at 901 Country Club Drive and $26,495 to remove the remaining concrete slab at 854 Country Club Drive.
One other flooded home remains standing at 848 Country Club Drive. Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn said there are some liens associated with that property. She said those liens need to be removed before the County can complete the buyout and demolition of that property.
