Hostyn Home, Dogs Lost in Fire
James and Kathy Fox of Hostyn lost their home and most of their belongings in a fire Thursday afternoon, Dec. 14. The couple’s two dogs were inside the home when the fire started, and they presumably perished.
Several motorists on FM 2436 called 911 to report the fire around 2:45 p.m. after seeing flames while driving by. Two of them stopped to help, but no one was home at the time. A neighbor also came by to help. The three men dragged a lawnmower away from the house and tried fighting the flames with a water hose while waiting for the fire department.
La Grange Volunteer Fire Department arrived and began fighting the fire. But the flames quickly engulfed the home.
The fire appeared to have started in a bathroom in the corner of the house. Kathy Fox told the Record that she had no idea how the fire could have started. Fox said she came home around noon that day to check on her dogs and grab a snack, and nothing was out of the ordinary. Fox said their property was insured.
La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Fayette County EMS and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
