Holiday Tour of Berclair Mansion Planned By Casino Association, La Grange Main Street

An unforgettable Holiday Get-Away is being hosted by the Casino Art Association Board and La Grange Main Street on Sunday, Dec. 3, to the Berclair Mansion.

The tour will leave La Grange at 8 a.m. and return by 5 p.m. The Mansion, which is outside of Goliad, will be decked out for the holidays and the trip will include a gourmet luncheon along with tours of the festive Mansion. Twenty-five plus vendors will also be on the grounds for holiday shopping at their Christmas Market.

You will step back in time at the Berclair Mansion and view pristinely preserved antiques which were collected by ranching heiress, Etta Wilkinson Terrell. This structure was built in 1936 by Terrell for herself and her four sisters. The entire structure is fireproof with 60 tons of cement and steel used and at the time it was believed to be the largest steel strand home in the United States.

Terrell collected antiques to furnish the 10 bedrooms, five baths and 2 grand halls. Many of the antiques were from the 16th and 17th Century European castles. After the last sister passed away the entire structure was boarded up with the valuable antiques inside and the mansion lay dormant for 27 years until it was gifted to the Beeville Art Association.
