Highway 159 to Close for Days at a Time Next Year

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) informed the Fayette County Commissioners Court about major road construction that will begin on SH 159 north of La Grange next year.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court acknowledged a letter it received from TxDOT at their meeting last Thursday outlining the construction plans. According to the letter, TxDOT plans to replace drainage structures under the highway between SH 71 and SH 237 (known as the Fayetteville Y). The highway will be closed at each drainage structure for three to seven days at a time. Work will take place over 16 months.

The project will be let out for bids in December of this year with construction to start two to three months after that. TxDOT said construction work will halt during the spring and fall antiques fairs in March and October of next year to accommodate the increased traffic.
