Heat Lamp Catches Dog House on Fire

An electric heat lamp started a fire in a dog house in Cozy Corner early Wednesday morning, Jan. 4.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got the call around 1:20 a.m. reporting the fire on FM 3233. La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the fire burned the dog house to the ground and threatened a nearby home. The dogs were able to escape without injury, Menefee said.

Firefighters put out the fire before it spread to the home.

Menefee wished to warn the public about the danger of using heat lamps to warm dog houses or other small buildings. Heat lamps can start fires if they fall, get knocked down, or are placed close to flammable materials.
