Grass Fire in Flatonia
Flatonia and Schulenburg firefighters put out a small grass fire near Flatonia on Friday, July 29. A motorist called 911 around 2:30 p.m. reporting a fire along FM 609 near Farek-Loth Rd. Flatonia Fire and Rescue was busy working a vehicle crash in Flatonia at the time. They sent one grass truck and a tanker and called for mutual aid from Schulenburg VFD. Schulenburg firefighters responded with two grass trucks and an additional tanker. The crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which burned less than an acre. Firefighters were not able to determine the cause of the fire. Workers were on the property when firefighters arrived, but a language barrier hampered communication. No one was injured and there were no major damages.
