Gas War
It’s Hard to Call Gas at $4.03 Cheap, But We’ll Take It
The smiling cowboy that adorns the new Texan store in Schulenburg is giving local folks something to smile about. A gas war broke out in Schulenburg last week after the new convenience store opened at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10.
The prices for regular unleaded were around $4.50 a gallon across town when the Texan Store opened last Thursday. The three stores near the interstate – Pilot, Hitching Post and The Texan – had all slashed prices by more than a quarter by the beginning of this week. On Monday, July 5, the price was $4.19 a gallon at Pilot and Hitching Post, with The Texan a penny cheaper at $4.18 a gallon.
By Tuesday afternoon, Pilot was still at $4.19, but Hitching Post dropped to $4.15 with The Texan a penny cheaper at $4.14. Then on Wednesday, the Texan was down to $4.03.
A year ago, no one would have talked about cheap gas at $4 a gallon. But with today’s economy, folks in other parts of the County might want to consider a drive to Schulenburg just for a fill-up.
