Historical Comm.

The Women’s Action Guild (WAG) is planning their monthly meeting on Monday, March 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Flatonia United Methodist Church in Newman Hall. This is the annual membership drive salad supper. Current members are asked to bring a dish and door prize. There is a side entrance on N. Middle St. All women from the Flatonia and surrounding areas are welcome. For more information, call (361) 772-3068.

The Fayette County Historical Commission will be having their next meeting at Founder’s Park, located across from the courthouse at 252 W. Colorado on Monday, March 20 at 6 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and is a great way to learn more about the activities of the Historical Commission and the efforts of it’s members to preserve the history of Fayette County. We are always looking for new members who are interested in “working” to help in these preservation efforts. The historical commission is also actively looking for people to serve as docents to provide tours of the courthouse, information to tourists about the county and other activities of the commission.

FWS Meeting

Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a meeting of the board of directors on Monday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Rd. in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

There’s more The Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau dinner and 2023 quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 21, at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6:30 p.m. and stew dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Richard Moring, Fayette County Chief Appraiser. A short business meeting will follow the meal. Members are asked to bring a dessert.

Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina

The Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau local will hold their meeting March 21 at the Swiss Alp Farm Bureau hall. The social starts at 6 p.m. followed by a pot-luck supper. There will be a business meeting after the supper with a guest speaker, Wendy McDaniels, Fayette County Farm Bureau board president. Members are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert.

Winedale Lunch & Learn

From July 15-17, 1868, in the small town of Millican, up to 300 Black Americans were driven away or killed in what some scholars consider the worst incident of racial violence in Texas during Reconstruction. Please Join Winedale for an in-person discussion with historian and author Thomas Stevens on Tuesday, March 21 at noon. Winedale will also be collecting nonperishable food items for the AMEN Food Pantry.

VFW Post No. 5254, Auxiliary Meeting A light meal and meetings will be held by the La Grange Fayette Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary on Tuesday, March 21 at the VFW Home at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. Meeting time for the VFW Auxiliary is 5 p.m. A joint VFW and Auxiliary light meal will be served at 6 p.m. followed by the VFW Post meeting. New potential members are invited to attend.

LG Chamber Drive Thru Dinner

The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual barbecue chicken dinner on Thursday, March 23 from 4:30 until 6.30 p.m. at the KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown St. Plates are $12, drive-thru only. Plates include a half barbecue chicken, pinto beans, coleslaw and noodles. La Grange Garden Club

The La Grange Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 East Pearl St. for its regular monthly meeting. The program will feature a presentation by Poehbe Lake on growing and the uses of herbs. Information will also be presented on the upcoming annual plant and caladium bulb sale scheduled for April 13 and 14. All members are encouraged to attend and guests are always welcome. YoungLife Fun Shoot

La Grange YoungLife is hosting a four-person Fun Shoot at the Fayette County Gun Club on Saturday, March 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $500 per team. The shoot will include skeet, trap and 5-stand. A hamburger lunch will be available for a free will contribution. Call (760) 780-5120 to register and support this youth ministry.

National Vietnam Veterans Day

The Fayette County Record is trying to build a list of local veterans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War in advance of National Vietnam Veterans Day March 29. Yoga Class at the Library

The Round Top Family Library located at 206 W. Mill St. in Round Top will host a yoga class on Wednesdays from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Bring a mat. This is a free class with instructor Tory Farley.
