Food Bank Truck
Second Chance Emporium hours of operation effective Sept. 11. Donation drop-off hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sales store hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at Junction FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Saturday, Sep. 16 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags, boxes, or plastic tubs. Wagons will be furnished by the CTFB.
Texas Heroes Day
The Texas Heroes Museum will host a special presentation for Texas Heroes Day. The program will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 and repeat on Sunday. Sept. 17. Admission is free. The museum opens at 10 a.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Fridays and Sundays.
Grief Group
Hospice Brazos Valley is offering an Anticipatory Grief group. This is a monthly support group for caregivers of loved ones who have a terminal or chronic diagnosis. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange. There’s more St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Holman will hold their annual drive-thru meal and online auction on Sunday, Sept. 17. The church is located on FM 155 between Weimar and La Grange. The meal will include fried chicken, sausage, buttered potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, pickle and dessert. The cost per plate is $12. Hermann Sons Life Plum
The Hermann Sons Life Plum September meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse located at 2510 Williams Rd. in West Point. Meal and dessert will be provided.
FWS Corporation Meeting
Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a meeting of the board of directors on Monday, Sept. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Rd. in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.
VFW Post No. 5254 & Auxiliary
A light meal, meetings, and a program will be held by La Grange Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the VFW Home in La Grange. Meeting time for the VFW Auxiliary is 5 p.m., then a joint POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony and a meal will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the VFW Post meeting.
Tax Assessor Collector’s Hours
The Fayette County Tax Assessor Collector’s (DMV) office will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 19, for training. The office will resume normal business hours on Wednesday, Sept. 20. 4-H Fun Night
Fayette County 4-H will present 4-H Fun Night on Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Fayette County Fairgrounds from 4-6 p.m. 4-H, the nation’s largest youth development and empowerment organization, cultivates confident kids who tackle the issues that matter most in their communities right now. In the United States, 4-H programs empower six million young people through the 110 land-grant universities and cooperative extension in more than 3,000 local offices serving every county and parish in the country. Parkinson’s Support Group
The September meeting of the Parkinson’s Support Group will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 East Pearl St. in La Grange. Vietnam Veterans Meeting

NewLife Pioneer Club: 1st-5th Grades
New Life Methodist Church (formerly First UMC), located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange, invites children in 1st through 5th grade to join for fun with Jesus through Pioneer Club, the Wednesday after school program from 3:45 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. (parent pickup). TX Vs. OU Gamewatch Party & Fundraiser Join the Fayette County Texas Exes Chapter on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a family friendly game watching party at Round Top Brewing, 101 W. Austin St. in Round Top. All Longhorn fans (or non-OU supporters) are welcome. We’ll have events going on throughout the game like squares and a silent auction to support 2023 scholarships. Come hang out and watch the game or enjoy the outdoor games (bean bags, rope toss, etc) with family and friends. Come early, be loud, stay late, wear orange. Attendees are asked to consider making a tax deductible donation of $50 or more to the Fayette County scholarship fund to be awarded to students who will be freshmen at UT in the 2024-2025 school year. Goal this year is to provide $15,000 in scholarships for local area students.
