Democratic Meet

St. Mark’s Monthly Free Power Hour will be held Wednesday, May 24 from 2-3 p.m. Topic will be “What is Balance, and How Do We Maintain Good Balance?” Plus, learn and share about dealing with difficulties with daily activities, balance, memory or conditions such as Parkinson’s, stroke or amputation. All are invited; refreshments will be served in the St. Mark’s dining room. Call (979) 242-2401 for more information.

The next meeting of the Fayette County Democratic Party will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. at La Grange City Hall, 155 E. Colorado.

Buddy Poppy Sale

VFW Auxiliary Post No. 5254 will be distributing buddy poppies in the La Grange area for Memorial Day on Friday, May 26, which this year happens to be National Poppy Day. This not only raises funds to assist veterans, but also brings awareness of the sacrifices sevice members made for our freedom. Wear your poppy with pride.

There’s more Hospice Brazos Valley is having a monthly support group for caregivers of people who have terminal or chronic illnesses. This will be held at the HBV office, 1048 North Jackson. For information, call Cindy Fanning at (979) 431-1556.

Memorial Day Ceremony

Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations welcomes the public to their annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29, beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home located at 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange. Koenig-Belvill is honoring our courageous troops who risked their lives for our freedom by continuing the Memorial Day tradition of retirement of the colors by the Marine Corps League No. 1028, placement of the new colors by the VFW Post No. 5254, Pledge of Allegiance led by Vietnam Veterans Association No. 870 and placement of the memorial wreath by the American Legion Posts No. 102, La Grange, Post No. 338, Round Top, and Post No. 602, Shelby. Fayette County author, Elaine Thomas, author of the book, “Veterans Voices and Home Front Memories,” will be the guest speaker. The public is welcome to join in honoring our troops. We will never forget the sacrifices made by these brave men and women.

Memorial Day Observance

The public is invited to the annual Memorial Day observance Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at Wolters Park in Schulenburg. Assembly of Veterans at 9:45 a.m. Patriotic songs by D’Vine Testament. Guest speaker is Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller.

LG Summer Soccer Camp

The La Grange ISD Soccer Camp for boys and girls will take place June 19-21 at Leopard Stadium. Session 1: K-4th grade is from 5:30-7 p.m. Session 2: 5th-8th grade is from 7-8:30 p.m. Sessions and times may have to be adjusted depending on the number of campers. The camp is $50. To pay online, go to the LGISD website and click on “LGISD Summer Sports Camps 2023”. To pay by check, make checks out to LGISD, indicate camp name and student in memo line. Give checks to Coach Gerecke, Coach Hubbert or Coach Coltrain before May 29 or mail to LGISD, Attn: Summer Sports Camp, P.O. Box 100, La Grange, TX 78945. Equipment needed: athletic shorts, shin guards, cleats, and water bottle.
