Guild Bake Sale
On Tuesday, May 16, meetings of the La Grange Fayette Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5254 and Auxiliary will be held at the VFW Home in La Grange. Meeting time for the VFW Auxiliary is 5 p.m. A joint Loyalty Day program and light meal will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the VFW Post meeting. New potential members are invited to attend.
The Mt. Calvary Mary Martha Guild will host its annual Mother’s Day Bake Sale in front of National Bank & Trust on the courthouse square on Friday, May 12 beginning at 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. or until sold out. Baked goods available will include cakes, pies, brownies, cookies, cupcakes and other home baked items. Free will donations. Funds raised will support various local outreach projects. Be sure to come early and surprise Mom with a treat.
Bethlehem A.M.E.
The Bethlehem A.M.E. Church located at 2200 Bethlehem Church Rd. in La Grange will have their annual remembrance Saturday, May 13 beginning at 1:30 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Leo Vaughns, Jr. from St. Mark Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth.
Family Game Day
Round Top Family Library will host a game day, free and open to the public, on May 13 from 2-5 p.m. at the Historic Rummel Haus. The library provides the board games and you provide the competitors. Bring your family and friends to 206 W. Mill Street in Round Top. A parent or guardian must be present. A light snack will be served.

For the Record on Page A2 & C5 Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.
Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Hot Dogs and Bake Sale
St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinger will have a hot dog and bake sale Saturday, May 13 serving from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The bake sale is a free will donation. Proceeds will benefit future ministries. For more information, call or text (979) 966-3515.
St. James Barbecue and Bake Sale The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, May 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B.Ahalf chicken is $5 and a sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Texas Ramp Project.

Book Sale in Schulenburg
Friends of the Schulenburg Library are hosting their annual Book Sale at the library at 310 Simpson St. in Schulenburg, beginning Monday, May 15 to Tuesday, May 23 during regular library hours. Books are from a variety of sources including many donations of long loved collections by those in declutter mode. Whether you wish to buy or just browse, all are welcome to peruse the organized sections. Prices start at fifty cents. Hardcovers from a dollar. Proceeds benefit the library.
Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Meeting The local Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau will hold their meeting on May 16 at the Swiss Alp Farm Bureau hall. The social starts at 6 p.m. followed by a potluck supper. Scholarship recipients and their families are invited to attend. There will be a short business meeting after the supper. Members are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert.
Fundraiser for the Faison House
The Smith McMillan Chapter of the Texas Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Faison House in La Grange on Tuesday, May 16 from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church parking lot (across from H-E-B in La Grange). The drive-thru features a chicken dinner with red potatoes, green beans, grilled, squash, roll, and cobbler for only $12. Republican Women Meeting
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 18, at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Dr. in La Grange. Speaker will be Lt. Colonel (U.S. Army, Ret.) Jeffrey F. Addicott. He is a full Professor of Law and the Director of the Warrior Defense Project at St. Mary’s University School of Law, San Antonio. An active-duty Army officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps for twenty years, Professor Addicott spent a quarter of his career as the senior legal advisor to the United States Army’s Special Forces. As an internationally recognized authority on national security and terrorism law, Professor Addicott not only lectures and participates in professional and academic organizations both in the United States and abroad (over 1,000 speeches), but he also testifies before Congress on a variety of legal issues. There will be a dinner buffet available for attendees who want to arrive early to enjoy a great meal (Dutch treat). Drive-Thru Sausage Dinner
La Fayette Masonic Lodge in La Grange will be having a fundraiser on Friday, May 19 from 4-6 p.m. at the lodge building located at 1001 N. Jefferson, just North of the La Grange water tower. The meal is drive through only and includes ½ lb. sausage, potato salad and beans for $10 per plate. Proceeds go to support La Grange student activities and local charities.
The Ledbetter Community Center will host Bingo for seniors 60 and older on Sundays. Join on May 21 from 2-4 p.m. $5 per card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips, snacks and drinks available for free will donation.
Waldeck Lutheran Church Picnic
The Waldeck Lutheran Church Picnic will be held Sunday, May 21. The meal will consist of barbecue pork steak with buttered potatoes, green beans, and homemade sauce for $15 a ticket. May Fest Slavnost will be held Sunday, May 21 at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center located at 250 W. Fairgrounds Road in La Grange. The Tribute to Czech immigrants ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. A chicken fried chicken dinner starts at 11:30 a.m. for $12 per plate. Music will be by the Donnie Wavra and Friends Orchestra. Enjoy the country store and pastry shop, classic car show and museum tours. Food and drinks are available all day.
Mt. Calvary Fundraiser
Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church & Preschool annual Celebration will be held Sunday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church BBQ Pavilion located at 800 N. Eichler-Kieke Family Reunion
The longtime tradition of the Eichler and Kieke family reunions will continue in 2023 on Sunday, June 4 beginning at 11 a.m. at the La Bahia Hall. There will be a catered chicken-fried steak meal. The 70th annual Freudenberg-Kirchhofer family reunion will be held Sunday, June 4 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Plum Hall, 126 Plum Church Rd. Air conditioned hall, playground, covered patio. Buckaroo Camp
Colorado River Cowboy Church will be having its three-day Buckaroo Camp June 5-7 for ages 3-12. It will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A chuck wagon supper will be served. Parents are welcome to stay. Parkinson’s Support Group
The monthly meeting of the Parkinson’s support group will be held Thursday, May 18 at 10 a.m. in the Randolph Recreation Center located at 659 E. Pearl St. in La Grange. Food Bank Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank food truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction FM 1291 and FM 2145 on Saturday, May 20 from 10 until 11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as clients walk through the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags and boxes. Wagons will be furnished by the food bank.
Memorial Day Ceremony

Fayette County author, Elaine Thomas, author of the book, “Veterans Voices and Home Front Memories,” will be the guest speaker. The public is welcome to join in honoring our troops. We will never forget the sacrifices made by these brave men and women.
