Women’s Shooting League

Celebrate Black History Month with a community celebration and church service on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 in Schulenburg. A parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Enjoy food, music and fun and a Black History Program. Contact Greg Thomas for more information at (979) 505-0282.

A women’s shooting league is coming to La Grange. Meet and greet Robyn Sandoval, A Girl and A Gun Executive Director and Crystal Duke, La Grange Chapter Facilitator, at the Fayette County Gun Club located at 5338 N. US Hwy. 77 on Sunday, Feb. 19 from 2-4 p.m. A Girl & A Gun was established by women shooters, is run by women shooters, for women shooters. All events are supervised by women Certified Firearms Instructors, and all facilitators are women who can “speak girl.” At events you learn and practice safe firearm handling skills, receive encouragement, ask questions in a safe and non-judgmental environment to improve marksmanship skills, and make new friends. AMEN Pantry Hours

The AMEN Pantry will be closed Monday, Feb. 20 in observance of President’s Day and will open on Tuesday, Feb. 21 for normal distribution hours from 9 a.m. until noon.

Chicken Fried Steak Fundraiser

The Hostyn Catholic Daughters of theAmericas, Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 will hold a drive-thru fundraiser at the KC Hall in La Grange on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. The meal will consist of chicken fried steak, buttered noodles, mixed vegetable blend, white gravy and a roll for $12 a plate. La Grange Chamber Lunch & Learn

The topic this month for the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce Lunch & Learn is: Mastering Business Storytelling to Inspire Your Customers, what can you do to cut through the noise & convert your customers into raving fans? Let Workforce Solutions Chief Storyteller, Brian Hernandez, help you learn how to humanize your brand by building emotional connections with customers who are drawn to your mission and purpose. The Lunch & Learn meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 12 until 1 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension Building located at 255 Svoboda Lane in La Grange.

Texas A&M Scholarship Applications Seniors of Fayette County high schools (and past graduates of the county’s schools who are currently enrolled in a junior college or other institution of higher learning) planning to attend Texas A&M University are strongly encouraged to apply for the Fayette County Texas A&M Scholarship. Applications may be turned in to your current or past high school counselor or principal or delivered to the Fayette County A&M Club, P.O. Box 1044, La Grange, TX 78945. Applications must be received or postmarked by March 1.

Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on (Third Wednesday of the Month) at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

Widowed Spouses Support Group Hospice Brazos Valley will host a Grief Support Group on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for anyone who is grieving the loss of a spouse. For more information and location of the group meeting, contact Cindy Fanning at (979) 968-6913.

Loss of a Child Support Group

Keeping Marriages Healthy

A free one-day workshop to strengthen your marriage or set you up for a great future marriage will be held Saturday, March 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of La Grange, located at 5000 SH-71 W. This workshop is an excellent resource for anyone planning to marry, recently married, or even longmarried and wanting to become emotionally closer. Texas Exes Independence Celebration Save-the-date March 4, for the annual Fayette County Chapter of Texas Exes Annual Independence Day Celebration. This event will be held at The Round Top Festival Institute located at 248 Jaster Road in Round Top from noon to 3 p.m. The mission of the Fayette County Texas Exes is to provide scholarships for rural students to attend the University of Texas at Austin. Internationally renowned concert pianist James Dick will be the featured guest speaker. He has received numerous accolades including being named the UT Distinguished Alumnus Award winner in 2009 and the recipient of the 2009 Texas Medal of Arts for his work in the area of Arts Education.
