An early morning fire on Sunday destroyed a building at the old La Grange Plastics property at 915 E. Colorado St. in La Grange.

La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the call came in around 3:19 a.m. The building was engulfed with flames when firefighters arrived. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department responded with two engines and nine firefighters. Menefee called for mutual aid from Fayetteviile Volunteer Fire Department, who responded with another fire engine and four firefighters.

The warehouse portion of the building contained cardboard boxes and a forklift. The remainder of the building housed office spaces. The building and all of the contents were destroyed in the fire.

The City of La Grange sent workers and a backhoe to the scene.

“We had to take some walls down to get inside the building so we could finish extinguishing it,” Menefee said.

Menefee said the City’s electric department also responded to disconnect an overhead threephase line that was threatened by the flames and heat.

The last firefighters left the scene at 9:14 a.m.

Menefee said he did not know how the fire started, but he said an investigation would follow.
