Music has played an important role in the history and personality of Fayetteville, and the historic courthouse and town square have played supporting roles in providing a family-friendly venue for many community and music events over the years. Now there’s an effort to combine support for the two – live music and the Fayetteville courthouse square – in the inaugural Fayetteville Courthouse Music Series.

This music series will feature talented singers and musicians and take place each Tuesday during the months of October and March. “We wanted to take advantage of having people in the area for the antiques show, and those two months tend to have pleasant weather in this part of Texas,” said event organizer, Sandra Borne.

This first series of shows is slated for Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. Joey McGee, music director at St. Cecilia’s in Round Top, will kick off the series on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Other artists include Ellen Melissa Story and Friends, Marcus Eldridge, Brennan Nase and Steffany Johnston, and Chad Richard.

“We encourage people to bring their sports chairs and picnic dinners or support the restaurants on the square. People can pre-order charcuterie boxes from The Wine Bar at the Grand Fayette Hotel and then run across the street to Prohibition for wine or beer,” Borne said.

Mayor Mike Stroup added, “The City of Fayetteville is looking forward to these Tuesday night concerts at the courthouse. We have a great line-up for October, so come join us”!

Attendance to the show is free, but there are family and corporate sponsorships available. Monies left over after paying the artists and for any advertising will be presented to the city of Fayetteville in the form of a check at the next ARTWalk. The event is sponsored in part by the Fayette County Record and Mary and Evan Quiros. For more information or to inquire about sponsorships, call Sandra Borne at (512) 971-3901.
