The annual Country Christmas celebration is finally here. The event, held by the Greater Fayetteville Chamber this Saturday, includes a visit from Santa in the old fire station in his room next to the annual Christmas Tree Display. He’s stopping by with goodie bags for all from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and taking a brief break to pop into the parade at 6 p.m. Kids from ARTS and the community choir will sing throughout the square beginning at 5 p.m. Don’t forget to join in the Lighted Parade with your boat, bike, four-wheeler, antique car or just yourself. Line up at 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Fayette Hotel.

A miniature Christmas pony joins in the fun at 4:30 p.m. Movies in the square begin at 7 p.m. Bring a comfortable chair and enjoy snacks and hot chocolate. Lots of local shops are featuring their finest and ARTS is offering Christmas crafts for the kids to make and take. More information in posters all around town and on the website: https://www. greaterfayettevillechamber.org.

As the 2nd Texas Runner Up in the Ms. Texas Sr. America Pageant, Patty Wells will be riding in the parade in a 1958 Plymouth DeSoto with husband John Wells. Misty Blanchard from La Grange will be driving the carriage provided by John Burkland of Rutersville.

City Council also agreed for a permanent location of flag poles for presenting the five military service flags on the square. A MIA/POW flag will also be flown on specified dates. The Shelby American Legion Post #602 will fund and maintain the flag display. Donations are accepted by the Shelby American Legion and a plaque will be installed with donors names.

John A. Reynolds was nominated to fill the remaining term of EDC board member Jim Rushing. Jim and Beth Rushing are relocating and will be sorely missed. Sandee Wilkinson has replaced Beth as City Secretary.

The Economic Development Corporation board members are attending EDC workshops and are implementing new processes.
