Fayette Savings Bank Donates to MLLC in Honor of Jerry Jacobs
In appreciation of his service of 46 years on its board of directors, Fayette Savings Bank made a $5,000 donation to the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine in honor of Jerry Jacob.
“46 years – that pretty much says it all,” said David Zapalac, FSB CEO. “Jerry wasn’t one to talk a lot just to be saying something. I would call him thinker, a listener. He would take information in, ponder it, and when he spoke, people listened as he had a solid, keen business mind. His leadership and decision making was invaluable. We’re going to miss Jerry.”
“When a director retires, our bank asks the director if there’s a special cause or charity that’s near and dear to them – of which they’d like us to make a donation to in their name,” Zapalac continued. “We were pleased to honor Jerry’s request that our donation go to the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. This allows us to honor and thank the retiring director, and contribute to a worthy cause in the communities we serve at the same time.”
In 1978, Jerry joined the board as an original member of what was then Fayette County Savings & Loan Association.
“I was proud to serve on the board for 46 years and be a part of growing Fayette Savings Bank into one of the most successful and best managed banks in this area,” Jacob said.
Jacob explained his work career as such: “After high school, my brother (E.P. Jacob, Jr.) and I became heavily involved in my father’s laying hen business. I was in charge of a half million laying hens whose eggs were produced and packaged in Carmine and then delivered to Kervin Jacob, another brother of mine who was owner of Jake’s Eggs in Houston. Along with the help of my wife Barbara (now of 67 years), we continued this line of work until all our laying hens were depleted in 2012.
“Now semi-retired, I am simply enjoying life with my wife, family, grandkids, and great grandkids,” Jacob added. “I will always have a special place in my heart for Fayette Savings Bank and will continue to support them any way I can.”
