Fayette County Recylcled 1.2 Million Pounds Last Year
We’ve been having another great year within the Fayette County Recycling Program, recycling over 1.2 million pounds in plastic, newspaper, magazines, cardboard and aluminum (as of Oct. 31.) According to a Keep Texas Recycling report, 4.1 million gallons of water were saved by recycling. In addition to that, we have recycled just over 300 tons of glass, 375 tons of scrap metal, 15,990 pounds of electronics, and 359 tires. We have properly disposed of 25,407 pounds of household hazardous waste with the bulk of it being latex paint and mulched some 18,000 cubic yards of brush.
Cardboard alone we are recycling almost 10 tons a week through our Fayette County program. This rate has warranted us to add a secondary baler at the Schulenburg yard to keep up the demand and to help alleviate some of the congestion when you first turn in the gate. The Warrenton yard expansion has been completed and we have seen steady increases, be on the lookout for a flyer in the Fayette County Record telling you more about the details of the Warrenton yard after the first of the year. Currently, we have submitted a grant for an expansion at the Fayetteville yard to hopefully house a cardboard baler and one day a #1 plastic’s baler with the hopes of hauling more compressed material and less air back to our La Grange yard.
In recapping the year, we have added a secondary cardboard baler in Schulenburg. We have acquired a used 10 bin recycling trailer in pristine condition at the cost of $4,093, a new trailer with 10 bins would have cost our taxpayers roughly 28K. What a great find!
As always, we are here to help you recycle and properly dispose of your household items, we try to accommodate our Fayette County taxpayers to the best of our ability but there are some items we simply cannot accept. We hope you understand. If you have any questions, please call (979) 968-8446 or ask an attendant on duty. Happy Holiday’s and we look forward to seeing you in 2024.
