Fayette County Enacts Burn Ban

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed an order last Thursday prohibiting outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of the County.

Ironically, a few drops of rain fell on the Courthouse last Thursday morning just as the Commissioners took up discussing the burn ban. Some more rain would fall that evening in some parts of the County. It’ll take a lot more, however, for the current drought to ease.

Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn said the Keetch-Byram Drough Index (KDBI) average for Fayette County was at 654 last Thursday. It slightly improved to 642 on Sunday. KDBI numbers above 600 indicate extremely dry conditions with a high danger of wildfire.
