Fayette County Deputies Make Arrest in Fraud Case

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Oct. 11 Deputy AJ Gonzales took a report in reference to fraudulent charges being made on a victim’s bank account. Investigator Marc Bennett, along with Narcotics Investigators, began an investigation into the matter. Subsequent investigation led to a search warrant being obtained for a residence in the West Point area, which was served on Oct. 12. As a result of the search warrant, approximately five pounds of stolen mail containing identify information was located in the residence. Investigators also found methamphetamine, a shotgun, and criminal instruments involved in the criminal activity. Arrested at the residence, was Michelle Phillips, 43, of West Point, for Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information, Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon, and Possession of Methamphetamines.

On the scene of the search warrant, Investigator Marc Bennett and the Narcotics Investigators were assisted by Sgt. Angela Lala, CIT Investigator Jeremy Castleberry, and Deputy Herman Olvera.
