Elections Filings Heat Up in Schulenburg
Several recent filings are shaping up an exciting election season for the City of Schulenburg.
Local cattleman Jake Berger filed paperwork to run for mayor last week. He is unopposed so far. Mayor Elaine Kocian, the incumbent, has not yet filed for re-election.
Two seats on the City Council are also up for election this year. In Place 1, incumbent Greg “Wolf ” Thomas has filed for re-election. So far he is unopposed.
Two candidates have filed for Place 2, Frank “Butch” Wick III and Tina Bohlmann.
The City of Schulenburg will hold a special election to fill the unexpired term on Place 3. The former Place 3 Alderman, Howard Stoner, died in office on Jan. 8. Two candidates have filed for that position: Howard Stoner’s son, Scott Stoner, and Douglas Behlen, a former councilman who last served in 2016.
The filing deadline for Mayor, Place 1 and Place 2 is this Friday, Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. The filing deadline for the Place 3 special election is Monday, March 6, at 5 p.m. City elections take place on Saturday, May 6.
