Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K-9 partner Kolt, stopped a Volkswagen passenger car on I-10 at the 665 mile-marker at approximately 12:15 p.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver Sgt. Thumann became suspicious that the driver may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle.

Thumann deployed his canine partner Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Thumann observed Kolt alerted to the vehicle for the presence of illegal narcotics.Thumann searched the vehicle and discovered approximately two kilos of Cocaine inside a cereal box and $10 thousand dollars inside a headphones box.

The narcotics have an estimated street value of $200,000 dollars. The driver, Isidro Maldonado (29) from San Antonio, was arrested for Felony Possession and Felony Money Laundering and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
