Driver of Tractor Dies From Injuries in Wreck

The local man thrown off a tractor in a crash on FM 609 last week has succumbed to his injuries.

Elroy John Zimmermann, 96 of La Grange, died on Saturday, September 23. An initial report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, as reported in Tuesday’s Record, incorrectly listed his age.

The wreck happened last Wednesday, Sept. 20, around 5:18 p.m. on FM 609 near Zimmermann Ln. southwest of Hostyn. Zimmermann was driving a John Deere tractor and tried crossing the highway from a private driveway when a vehicle heading southwest struck the tractor. The impact threw Zimmermann off the tractor. He landed in the roadway with serious injuries.

According to an obituary from his family, Zimmermann was a US Navy veteran who served during World War II. You can find the obituary on page 5C today.
