Dispute Clouds Future of Daycare

A dispute between The Remnant Church (TRC) and The Remnant Academy is leaving lots of local parents uncertain about the future daycare of their kids.

On Feb. 9, parents of kids enrolled The Remnant Academy (TRA) were sent home with a letter stating in part that “the future of TRA is uncertain. After negotiations over the past year, we have reached a place of few options.”

As stated in the letter those two options are: “1. TRC accepts an agreement that TRA purchase the land. TRA remains open under a new business.

“2. TRC does not accept the agreement and TRA vacates the premises by the end of the May school year.”

The Remnant Church currently owns the land and building TRA occupies. TRA was founded in 2007 by Remnant Pastors Jan and Dennis Hill as an extension of the church, but they have since retired. The Remnant Academy is one of only two large-scale full-time day cares in La Grange. TRA currently cares for 93 kids and has 16 staff members.

Leticia Fonville, the Remnant Academy director said, “we are continuing to seek a resolution with the least amount of disturbance to our families and staff.”
