As Deadline Nears, Local Candidates Signing Up

The filing period is underway for municipal elections around the County. Those interested in running have until Feb. 17 to file an application for a place on the ballots.

Below are the seats up for election this year, and the names of candidates who have filed as of Tuesday this week: City of La Grange

• Council Ward 1 – incumbent is Katie Gross, and she is the only candidate to file so far;

• Council Ward 2 – incumbent is John “Honza” Cernosek, and he told the Record last week that he will not run for re-election. Former La Grange Councilman Ken Taylor has filed for Ward 2;

• Council Ward 3 – incumbent is Bonnie Busch, and she is the only candidate to file so far;

• Council Ward 4 – incumbent isArthur Bosque, and he is the only candidate to file so far.

City of Schulenburg

• Mayor – incumbent is Elaine Kocian, and she has not yet decided whether she will run for re-election; no one else has filed so far;

• Council Place 1 – incumbent is Greg “Wolf ” Thomas, and he is the only candidate to file so far;

• Council Place 2 – incumbent is Wendy Fietsam, and she is moving outside the City Limits and will not run for reelection; no one has filed so far;

• Council Place 3 – a special election has been called to fill the unexpired term of the late Councilman Howard Stoner, who died in office on Jan. 8; the filing period for this special election runs from Feb. 5 to March 5.

City of Flatonia

• Council Seat 1 – incumbent is Catherine Steinhauser, and no one has filed so far;

• Council Seat 2 – incumbent is Travis Seale, and no one has filed so far;

• Council Seat 5 – incumbent is Ginny Sears, and she is the only candidate to file so far.

City of Fayetteville

• Mayor - incumbent is Mike Stroup, and Stroup told the Record this week that he intends to run for re-election; on one else has filed so far;

• Council Place 2 – incumbent is Cade Burkes, and no one has filed so far;

• Council Place 4 – incumbent is Emil Knodell, and no one has filed so far.

Town of Round Top

Three seats on the Round Top Town Council are up for election this year, and the incumbents are Amy Bone, Keith Sharp and Greg Walla. No one has filed so far.

City of Carmine
