County Planning Tire Clean-Up Event in November
Fayette County Commissioners decided at their meeting last Thursday to hold a countywide tire pickup event in early November. Specific dates will be announced at a later time.
The event is aimed at providing residents with a safe place to dispose of old tires, which might otherwise be burned or illegally dumped. Pct. 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann found a company that agreed to place two collection trailers in the County for the event at a cost of $6,400. The company will accept all tire sizes up to 17.5x25. That includes tires for cars, light trucks, 18-wheelers and heavy equipment except large rear tractor tires. Collection trailers will be placed in two locations: the Schulenburg Recycling Center and the County’s Pct. 2 Road and Bridge yard in Warrenton.
The County will charge fees of $2 for car and light truck tires, $10 for 18-wheeler tires, and $20 for heavy equipment tires. The fees will help cover the cost of disposal. County workers will be on-hand to help unload tires. The event will be open to only Fayette County residents. Customers may be required to show proof of residency.
Commissioners did not set dates for the collection event when they met last Thursday, but they said it would take place after the Fall Antiques Show in Warrenton. Look for an announcement in the coming weeks.
