City of La Grange Seeks Residents to Serve on Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment
The City of La Grange is actively recruiting applications for vacancies on two (2) of our citizen boards/committees. Citizen boards are not legislative bodies; the extent of their authority is contingent upon City Ordinances and/ or state statutes. Community members who serve on La Grange’s boards and committees provide an invaluable service by assisting the City Council and City Staff with developing recommendations on important policy matters. Participation in a City advisory body is an excellent way to get involved in the community and your local government. We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds to reflect our community’s composition.
Applicants must be residents of La Grange or meet other eligibility criteria per City Ordinances. Terms are two (2) years, with meetings typically occurring 4-6 times per year (or as needed), plus time for reviewing materials.
Zoning Commission: The Commission hears requests for zoning changes and special exceptions to the City’s Zoning Ordinance. The Commission has the power to: 1. Decide special exceptions pursuant to the terms and intent of the ordinance.
2. Grant such variances that are not contrary to the public interest and where literal enforcement of the provisions of the ordinance would result in an unnecessary hardship. The Zoning Commission submits its zoning recommendations to City Council for final approval. Meetings shall be held at the call of the chairperson, and at such other times as the Commission may determine.
Board of Adjustment: The Board hears requests for variances, specific use per-mits, and special exceptions to the City’s Zoning Ordinance. The Board has the power to: 1. Decide special exceptions pursuant to the terms and intent of the ordinance.
