City Elections Set in LG, Schulenburg, Flatonia and Round Top
No Contested Races in Fayetteville, Carmine and Ellinger So Elections There are Cancelled
The filing period for municipal elections ended on Friday, Feb. 17, and there will be several contested elections around the County. In the City of La Grange, incumbent Councilman Arthur Bosque will face Chris Jernigan for a seat representing Ward 4. All of the other candidates are unopposed:
• Mayor - Jan Dockery (incumbent)
• Ward 1 - Katie Gross (incumbent)
• Ward 2 - Ken Taylor*
• Ward 3 - Bonnie Busch (incumbent) (*Incumbent John “Honza” Cernosek did not run for re-election.)
The City of Schulenburg will hold three contested elections. Four people have filed to run for Mayor: Elaine Kocian (incumbent), Jake Berger, Connie Koopmann and Robert “Armen” Herzik. Two candidates will face off for Place 2 on the City Council: Frank “Butch” Wick III and Tina Bohlmann. There will be a special election to fill an unexpired term for Place 3, and two candidates have filed for that seat: Scott Stoner and Douglas Behlen. Incumbent Alderman Greg “Wolf ” Thomas is unopposed for Place 1.
Three at-large seats are up for election on the Flatonia City Council. Four candidates filed for election: Travis Seale (incumbent), Ginny Sears (incumbent), Donna Cockrell and Pamela Stolarski. Longtime Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem Catherine Steinhauser was up for election this year but she did not file to run.
Three at-large seats are up for election on the Round Top Town Council. Five candidates have filed: Amy Bone (incumbent), Jeanette Burger, Karen Duddlesten, Cameron LePee and Judith Vincent. Incumbents Keith Sharp and Greg Walla were up for election this year but they did not file.
There will be no contested elections for the City of Fayetteville. The incumbent mayor, Mike Stroup, is running unopposed. Three seats are also up for election on the Council, but they are all unopposed:
• Place 2 - Cade Burkes (incumbent)
• Place 4 - Kelly Brooks*
(*Incumbent Emil Knodell did not file for re-election)
Three seats on the Carmine City Council were up for election this year. The election will be cancelled because only the incumbents filed and they are all running unopposed:
• Place 1 - Rhonda Meeks (incumbent)
• Place 3 - Bobby Sharp (incumbent)
• Place 5 - Anita Drydale (incumbent)
In the City of Ellinger, the positions of mayor and one city commissioner were up for election this year, but only the incumbents filed: Matt Mikulenka for Mayor and Joe Lamer for commissioner. Accordingly, the election will be cancelled.
