Church Picnic Season Underway Here

Church picnic season is in full swing in Fayette County. A big crowd enjoyed the fried chicken and homemade sausage at the Plum Feast the past Sunday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum.

This weekend, fans of fried chicken and polka music get a double treat. The annual picnic at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church takes place on Sunday, July 3, followed the next day by the annual July 4 Picnic at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church south of Schulenburg.

Sunday July 17

• Moravia Picnic at Ascenion of Our Lord Catholic Church (11134 FM 957, Schulenburg, TX 78956)

Picnic mass at 9:30 a.m. Stew and kettle-fried chicken with trimmings served at 11 a.m. Cake walk at noon. Auction at 1 p.m. Country store and games. Music by Mark Halata and Texavia noon-4 p.m., The Czechaholics 4-8 p.m.

Sunday, August 7

• St. Michael’s Fall Festival at Veterans Memorial Park (503 Park Dr, Weimar, TX 78962)

Sunday, August 15

• Praha Picnic at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (821 FM-1295, Flatonia, TX 78941)

Praha’s famous fried chicken and stew dinner. Mass, kids games, booths and more. Live music by Ennis Czech Boys 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. The Czechaholics’s 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. and Blue denim from 7-10 p.m.

Sunday, August 28

• St. Mary’s Church Bazaar (815 St. Mary’s Church Rd, Ellinger, TX 78940)

Starting at 10:30 am there will be a Drive Thru Meal at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall (dine-in available) consisting of Fried Chicken, Sausage and trimmings for $14 per plate. Drawing will be held in the afternoon with a $5,000 top prize. Tickets for the drawing are available from the St. John’s/St. Mary’s Parish Office, St. Mary parishioners or Fayetteville Bank. Beginning Aug. 19, an Online Auction will be open for bidding. Go to www.stmaryellinger.com to register as a bidder and view auction items.

• Cistern Picnic at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church (113 Manchester St., Cistern, TX 78941)

Music by The Czechaholics 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Sunday, September 4

• St. John the Baptist Annual Feast (207 E Bell St., Fayetteville, TX 78940)

Mass with polka music at 10 a.m. Beef, pork and sausage barbecue plates $15 each. Live music under the pavilion during the meal by local parish musicians. Country auction at 1:30 p.m. Bingo at 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Hostyn, which was destroyed in an explosion on June 9.

• High Hill Picnic at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church (2833 FM 2672, Schulenburg, TX 78956).
