Round Top Family Library is pleased to welcome Laura Childs as its new Children’s Program Coordinator, bringing with her a dynamic blend of educational experience, creativity, and a deep appreciation for communitycentered learning.

A native of Houston, Laura attended Sam Houston State University and has built a professional background that bridges both education and hospitality. She previously taught high school courses in culinary arts, principles of human services, and child development—experience that reflects her passion for nurturing growth and development in young people. Most recently, she served at the City of Brenham’s Department of Tourism and Marketing Visitor Center, where she further honed her skills in community engagement and public interaction.

Laura and her husband reside just west of Brenham on a small piece of land where they care for a lively assortment of farm animals. As their three adult children prepare to embark on their own educational and professional journeys this fall, the couple is embracing a new season as empty nesters. They enjoy spending time outdoors, tending to their small orchard, relaxing by the pond, and appreciating the natural beauty of the countryside they call home.

Creativity is a defining thread throughout Laura’s life. She enjoys sewing, drawing, and painting, and has recently taken up the piano once again. She also has a talent for reimagining thrifted garments into custom pieces. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Laura values an active lifestyle, spending time working out, hiking, and preparing healthy meals.

A lifelong reader, Laura has instilled a love of books within her family. Among her personal favorites are the Ruth Galloway Mystery Series by Elly Griffiths, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. She is equally enthusiastic about children’s and young adult literature, particularly the Warriors series by Erin Hunter and the works of Judy Blume.

Laura was drawn to Round Top Family Library because of its welcoming spirit and strong sense of community. In her new role, she is committed to developing meaningful and engaging programming that sparks curiosity, fosters creativity, and inspires a lifelong love of reading among the children and families the library serves.

Join us in welcoming Laura to her new role and we hope you will stop by the library to meet her.
