Retired Rear Admiral, J. Weldon Koenig was the guest speaker for the Oct. 23, meeting of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court No. 1962. The Vice Regent and Legislative chair, Sherry Hebert, sought his military expertise to speak on the ever changing Global Balance of Powers and their Effects on Politics as well as War and Peace.

These troubling times call for discernment from not only the voters but also members of the White House and Congress. Being aware of the “Rubik’s cube” of the world powers’ political alignments that are balanced and then imbalanced at times and their affects on commerce, politics and the well-being of countries can help voters in discerning the prowess of political hopefuls are crucial in helping voters discern and determine the right people for Congressional seats and for the 2024 election of the POTUS.

Admiral Koenig reflected on the political and military aspects of the current state of affairs with the Israel crisis sharing concerns of our readiness for war and the volatile and polarized sentiments in our own country. Military success is derived from proper funding and staffing of our armed forces and clear and present focus, show of might, and consequences that will be used against countries backing and supplying aid to adversaries of Israel as well as Ukraine.

Americans need to be properly informed, and Admiral Koenig is disappointed in media bias in the news coverage— or lack of coverage, regarding reliable and sourced information to audiences. And he certainly has concern about the indifference and apathy in America in seeking well sourced news which is not a priority to many adults regarding the current world affairs. He says with our open southern borders spilling several thousand known “gotaways” as well as some terrorists and criminals who have been captured, that it is likely that terrorist cells are already networking throughout our country.

An engaging Q&A period with Admiral Koenig followed before the CDA Court returned to its regular business meeting.
