Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 1962 Meets in March, Hears From Sgt. Angela Lala

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 1962 held their monthly meeting on Monday, March 27. Regent Shirley Antosh opened the meeting with a prayer followed by the CDA Opening Ode and pledges. The charter was draped during the meeting in honor of our deceased member, Loretta Brugger, who passed away on March 27, at the age of 82. She was a member for 48 years.

Sergeant Angela Lala with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department was the guest speaker. After introducing herself, she gave a very informative presentation about self defense. She discussed ways to protect personal property and cautioned all about local scams and crimes. She also discussed lots of safety tips for every day concerning homes, vehicles, phones, Facebook/ media, and shopping. She strongly suggested taking preventative measures to be safe, always being aware of your surroundings, and not hesitating to report unusual happenings. She concluded her talk by saying to please call the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at any time if you have questions or concerns, or need help. We were happy to meet Sergeant Lala and truly appreciate her visit to the meeting and the information she shared with us.

The minutes were read and approved as corrected; the treasurer’s report was approved as presented. National, state, and local correspondence was shared, the reading of the bills was presented and all approved, and members were updated on current membership.

Membership Chairman Stacy Ryza briefly mentioned that the next reception of new members will be on June 4, at the Family Dinner.

Spiritual Enhancement Chairman Mary Lou Anderle mentioned that the State CDA Facebook site has great information posted and shared that she posts a thoughtful summary about a different saint daily during Lent.

Doris Lidiak briefly reported on the nursing home treats taken each month to Jefferson Place. She expressed her thanks to Karen Janda and the Sacred Heart students for beautiful artwork made for the residents. It was very appreciated by the residents.

The Get Well Wishes Report submitted by Emma Proske was given; Elizabeth Kallus reported on the TX State Court Memorial Enrollments submitted by Frances Guenther.

Peggy Supak briefed members on JCDA activities. Please keep collecting the ring tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Election of JCDA officers will be held in April.

Regent Antosh reported on Religious Education as submitted by Debbie Greene. Students are preparing for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion, SHOCK is preparing to attend Godstock in Burnet, CYM is preparing to attend the Diocese Middle School Rally, and Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 12-15.

Michelle Recek gave her report on the Fish Fry held on Friday, March 3. In addition to this, Stacy Ryza shared information about fish plates taken to the homebound.

Peggy Supak applauded those who participated in the Dr. Suess Day - PLAT (Promoting Literacy Across Texas). Thank you to those who prepared and read to the students. It was a great event for all.

Regent Antosh raised the subject of the Texas State Convention in Galveston fromApril 26-30. Several decisions were made regarding donations.

District Deputy Janet Purdy reminded all of the financial review next month before the meeting. She also informed members that the next National Convention would be in New Orleans, Louisiana in August 2024.

After the closing prayer, Closing Ode, and door prizes, Regent Antosh adjourned the meeting.
