Calling All Train Fans for Event Saturday
If you like watching trains, talking about trains, model trains, railroad history, or just being trains, then make sure you plan on being at the Tommy Shults Railfan Pavilion in Flatonia on Saturday, November 5 where all train enthusiasts are welcome.
The pavilion is located about 1/2 mile west of downtown at the junction of the Union Pacific -former Southern Pacific “Sunset” and the Cuero subdivision, which used to be part of the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railroad.
The pavilion is always open, handicap accessible, and is covered making it an excellent spot to watch trains no matter the weather.
It is lighted and has electrical power outlets for your train recording needs. There are a couple of picnic tables along with benches and feel free to bring your lawn chairs and whatever else you need to enjoy yourself.
There will be tours of the historic Tower #3 and of the restored Southern Pacific bay window caboose in the Rail Park downtown. The Flatonia Rail Museum is open 10:00 a,m. to 3:00 p.m. most Fridays and Saturdays and is located across the intersection from the tower.
There will be fresh coffee and donuts at the pavilion starting at 8 a.m. and activities will end around 3 p.m.
Come as early and stay as late as you like so all aboard to the Tommy Shults Railfan Pavilion.
