Cafe Owner Suffers Serious Burns July 4
JB Royer of Royer’s Round Top Cafe suffered some severe burns in an accident at his restaurant on Saturday, July 4.
The accident happened inside the kitchen while the big Round Top July 4 Parade was going on outside. Royer was preparing a meal for a wedding reception (the couple was married on a float in the parade). He accidentally spilled some hot grease. Royer slipped and fell. He suffered severe burns in the accident.
Thankfully, there were plenty of first responders in Round Top that day for the parade.
Pct. 2 Constable Roger Wunderlich was stationed nearby in front of the Round Top Real Estate Office. He responded almost immediately, along with medics from Fayette County EMS, who were staged in Round Top for the parade. Wunderlich directed traffic while EMS navigated an ambulance through the busy parade.
Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever said medics transported Royer to Dell Seton Hospital at the University of Texas in Austin. He remains hospitalized.
Royer’s wife, Jamie-Len Royer, said in a Facebook post that her husband would undergo surgery this week for skin grafts and would likely stay in the hospital for at least another week.
“Thank you all so much for the prayers and support,” she said in a post. “We are having a big thank you party when this is all over.”
