Burglary In Progress Broken Up Next to Czhilispiel

Flatonia Police broke up a burglary in progress Sunday afternoon while the Czhilispiel festival was winding down just a few blocks away.

Flatonia Police Chief Lee Dick reports that he and Officer Billy Kalina were patrolling The Czhilispiel on a fourwheeler Sunday afternoon. Around 1:30 p.m., they received calls about a suspicious man at The Cottages apartments, located a few blocks east of downtown on US 90.

“It involved a couple of different locations, but the primary situation was over at The Cottages,” Dicks said. “He had gained access to an office area and had gotten some keys. He was in the process of trying to disconnect the camera system outside. He was pretending to be an employee of The Cottages. He was pretending to do maintenance, but he was actually disabling the cameras.”

Dick identified the suspect as 52-year-old John Gordon. Dick said Gordon is from this area but he did not know where the suspect currently resides. Kalina arrested Gordon for burglary of a building. Dick said the charge could be upgraded to burglary of a habitation.

Other than that, Dick said Czhilispiel weekend was peaceful with no major incidents.
