Bramblett Recognized by American Legion
The American Legion, Post No. 102 La Grange extended a ‘well done’ to James Bramblett for his service above and beyond the call of duty to the community.
From February until June of this year, James Bramblett visited the La Grange City Cemetery, scouring 52 sections of burial plots in which he personally identified 564 Veteran graves.
This is an activity that has been neglected for over 40 years. From 1873 to the late 1970s, the La Grange City Cemetery was administered and cared for by the Ladies Cemetery Association of La Grange. City records do not indicate which graves belong to veterans. This presented the Legion Post with the prospect of not being able to recognize on Memorial Day all Veterans who chose to be buried here in our beloved Fayette County.
The La Grange City Cemetery currently has documented by the city over 5,500 gravesites. With 564 of those identified as Veterans, that puts La Grange at over 10 percent of residents who have served our great country. This is far above the National average of seven percent and puts the city in a special status in the country.
Thanks to the outstanding initiative shown by James Bramblett, the residents of La Grange can stand a bit taller knowing we have done our part to support our beloved United State of America.
