A bird started a grass fire at the Pilot Truck Stop in Schulenburg Wednesday, Sept. 28. The incident happened around 7 p.m. Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said a bird flew into some electrical lines at the Pilot. The bird apparently caused an electrical short between two lines, which sent sparks showering down to the dry grass below. Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department arrived and quickly extinguished the blaze. Power was out at the truck stop for a short time while City of Schulenburg electrical crews repaired the line.
