From Bingo to Artful Friday, Senior Connections Brings Community Together
Welcome to another exciting week at Senior Connections, your go-to activity center for those aged 55 and up. With free membership and delightful meals, we are thrilled to serve our community across Schulenburg, Flatonia, Weimar, and the surrounding areas. Our doors swing open at 9 a.m. and stay open until 2 p.m. inviting you to join for a week filled with fun, food, great games, and friendship.
Join on Monday, March 9 at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Schulenburg. Kick-off the week with an engaging morning of dominoes and other games, followed by a mouthwatering lunch of hamburger steak topped with grilled onions and gravy, prepared by our very own mayor and board member, Connie Koopmann from Koopmann Catering. Enjoy this feast with buttery noodles and our famous salad, complemented by delicious desserts brought by our members.
The day is all about connecting as no scheduled speaker means more time for chatting and mingling. Get to know your neighbor. Plus, we have a surprise in store. Niesha from True Care Living in Columbus will join to call our beloved bingo game, adding to the day’s excitement.
On Tuesday, March 10, join at Flatonia Methodist Church located at 403 E. North Main St. in Newman Hall for another delightful day. Our fearless executive director, Amanda Kridel, will serve her renowned meatloaf with buttered potatoes and seasonal salad. Our members will bring desserts. If you would like to donate a dessert for our meals, whether you bake it or purchase one, you can sign up in our sign-up binder or call (979) 743-3227, and we will put your name on the list.
Get ready for a treat as Tanya Edwards performs on her steel drum during our Lunch and Learn program. This musical interlude will run longer than our usual 30 minutes, leading into bingo at 12:45 p.m. with Haley from Crown Hospice.
On Wednesday, March 11, we are back at the Schulenburg location. Connie Koopmann will prepare fried chicken breast with gravy, accompanied by macaroni and cheese, house salad, and, of course, desserts from our talented members. Immediately after lunch, we’ll dive into bingo with the ever-popular Chyla from Wellsential in Halletsville, who adds her unique flair to the game. I’ll bet Rusty Beckman will be available to keep the energy high as she wraps up her time with us.
For those involved in our video project, Thursday, March 12 is your day. Make sure to bring your enthusiasm and creativity as we dive into this exciting initiative.
Artful Friday is held at 1206 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg. We’re thrilled to partner with Arts for Rural Texas to offer amazing art classes for seniors. Open to everyone aged 55 and up, you do not need to be a Senior Connections member to participate, but you must be registered. These classes are a fantastic way to express your creativity, make new friends, and be part of a creative community.
This week’s instructors include Jaime Janda, who will guide us through art journals, and Claire Lewis, who will lead a printmaking class. Lunch will be served after our classes, and there will be additional time for anyone wanting to work on other projects. Call the center at (979) 743-3227 for more information.
Don’t stay home alone when you can be part of our vibrant community. Whether you’re looking to play games, enjoy great meals, or unleash your creativity, Senior Connections has something for everyone. We look forward to seeing you this week. Remember, it’s never too late to join our wonderful group.
