A big crowd showed up for the annual Schulenburg Sausagefest in Downtown Schulenburg on Saturday, April 1.

Terri Wagner of the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce said she had no way of knowing how many attended because the event does not charge admission. By appearances, it must have numbered at least several hundred.

Eleven teams competed in the Sausage Making Competition. Thirty-six teams competed in the sausage toss, a game akin to egg toss but which uses a link of sausage. Music from The Czechaholics, Mark Halata and Texavia and the David Lewis Band kept the crowd entertained throughout the day. There was also a “walking” parade, a grand march and a hogcalling contest.

“I think it went very well,” Wagner said. “My prayers were answered for good weather.” Wagner wished to thank all the committee staff and those who helped getting the Sausagefest organized, everyone who worked on Saturday and those who helped with the cleanup on Sunday. “We look forward to doing it again next year and making it even bigger and better,” she added.
