Bernsen Earns Farm Bureau Homeschool Garden Grant
Abram Bernsen of Plum recently won a $200 Texas Farm Bureau Homeschool Garden Grant. Bernsen plans to use the money to purchase fruit trees.
The garden grant program by Texas Farm Bureau helps students make connections to agriculture through learning what it takes to care for a garden project and relate the project to concepts learned within their curriculum. This year, Texas Farm Bureau opened the garden grant program to homeschool students.
The program grants up to $200 to homeschool educators to help grow an understanding of food production and agriculture. Bernsen’s mother Brianne applied for the grant earlier this summer.
“Last year he won a $50 prize from the Soil & Water Conservation District and used the money to buy a Satsuma Orange tree from CHB Land Management,” Brianne Bernsen said. “His new trees will be a nice addition to his collection. I hope this inspires other children to get inspired about farming.”
