Berger Withdraws From Election
The City of Schulenburg won’t have a contested election after all.
Two candidates had applied to run for Place 5 on the City Council ahead of the filing deadline last Friday: Kathy Kleiber and Jake Berger. Berger withdrew from the election on Wednesday, according to City Secretary Mason Florus. That leaves Kleiber as the lone candidate for Place 5.
The Place 5 seat is currently held by Larry Veselka, who also serves as Mayor Pro Tem. He is the longest-serving alderman currently on the Council.
Two other Schulenburg City Council seats are up for election this year, and they are both unopposed.
Former mayor Roger Moellenberndt filed to run for Place 3. The Place 3 incumbent, Scott Stoner, did not file for re-election.
In Place 4, incumbent Clarence Ahlschlager was the only candidate to file.
