Beating the Heat a Tough Task These Days
The Record caught up with a few people who were trying to beat the heat last Saturday at the La Grange Splash Pad and the City Pool.
Susan Knesek took her grandchildren, Hudson and Hadley Mercer, to the Splash Pad on Saturday.
“It’s been a lot hotter, that’s for sure,” Knesek said. “I think the key is to do things early in the morning or late, late in the evenings. Stay hydrated, lots and lots of water or gatorade, powerade. It’s very important. We try to make sure (Hadley and Hudson) stay constantly hydrated or eating something healthy.
Lauren-Ashley Call was at the pool with her parents and her son on Saturday, July 9, trying to cool off.
“We’re definitely doing more things inside because we’re not able to do a whole lot outside,” she said. “We try not to leave the house too much during the day because every time you open the door, it’s hot.”
The pool provided them with a little relief on Saturday.
“I actually remember coming down here (to the La Grange city pool) when I was elementary school age, and now here I am again with my parents and my kid,” Call said.
Tyson Roscher, lifeguard at the La Grange City Pool, said he’s been seeing only about 15 people a day at the pool.
“I think, honestly, this entire week, there haven’t been many people out because it’s just so hot,” Roscher said. “It’s so hot, to the point where even the pool doesn’t do enough to cool you off.”
The heat had Roscher pining for a dip in a cold spring. “I’ve been to Barton Springs,
“I’ve been to Barton Springs, a long time ago,” Roscher said. “I remember it being really cold there. Barton Springs has probably had a lot of people this week.”
La Grange Recreation Director Janet Rangel said that as of this week the City plans to keep the pool open through Aug. 7. She said that date could change depending on staff availability. The pool hours are 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
