Another Fog-Related Traffic Accident
A woman from Flatonia suffered serious injuries in a foggy morning crash west of Schulenburg on Monday, Feb. 6.
According to a report by Trooper Louis Gabler with the Texas Highway Patrol, 51-year-old Lisa Klozik of Flatonia was driving east on US 90 in a maroon 2006 Ford Focus. An 18-wheeler driven by Ahmad Tanveer, 27 of Woodbridge, Va., was heading west on US 90. The rig is owned by SM Transport Inc. of Fredericksburg, Va.
Gabler’s report said Tanveer attempted to turn his 18-wheeler around by turning left on Michalke Rd.
“The weather condition at the time was dense fog that significantly impacted the visibility of the road,” Gabler wrote in his report.
Gabler said Tanveer turned when unsafe. He said that Klozik could not see the 18-wheeler due to the dense fog. The Ford Focus slammed into the right rear side of the 18-wheeler. The car went under the 18-wheeler and became lodged. The 18-wheeler continued to turn, Gabler said, dragging the Ford Focus a short distance before coming to a stop. The 18-wheeler trailer suffered minor damage. The Ford Focus suffered major damage to the front end.
The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department responded and extricated Klozik from the vehicle. Gabler’s report said Klozik suffered serious incapacitating injuries. She was wearing a seat belt, the report said.Fayette County EMS transported her to Dell Seton Hospital in Austin.
Tanveer was not injured. Gabler charged Tanveer for turning when unsafe.
Schulenburg Police and deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
