    Animal Complaints Continue in Schulenburg

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Jan. 8-14.

Animal Complaint

On Jan. 10, Code Enforcement Animal Control officer Gina Harden responded to the 300 block of August for dogs barking. Harden sat in front of the apartment and did not hear any barking. She advised complainant there is nothing she can do at this time. Complainant asked the officer to pick up the dogs. Officer advised she couldn’t remove the dogs for barking. Officer advised there is no legal justification for her to remove the dogs. Officer advised complainant to try earplugs to block the barking.

On Jan. 10, Harden responded to the 900 block of Bohmann where homeowner advised she had trapped a feral cat in her personal trap. Officer picked up the cat and released it into a safe area.

On Jan. 13, Sgt. Tobey McFadden was contacted by a UPS driver that they made a delivery in the 800 block of Wolf Street and advised he heard a dog barking and then heard the dog running towards him in the middle of the street. Driver advised he hurt his knee trying to get away from the dog and the dog jumped at him and he hit the dog with his device. Officer McFadden and animal control officer Harden traveled to the 800 block of Wolf and informed the owner of the dog what had happened. The dog owner was advised that her dog was dangerous and explained her options for keeping the dog. A copy of the dangerous dog statute was left in the dog owners’ mailbox.

On Jan. 13, Harden received a call from a concerned person about a dog chained out all night without shelter. Officer Harden drove to the 1000 block of Summit and checked on the dog, it was chained but not in distress. Officer knocked on front door but no answer.

On Jan. 13, Harden received a call from the resident in the 1000 block of Summit in regard to her dog and wanted to know if she was in trouble. Officer talked to the dog owner about the size of her chain on her dog and that it appeared too heavy and not long enough. Officer Harden and dog owner came up with some better ideas for the dog and the fact they could leave the shelter door open and the dog could be off the chain. Officer Harden will continue to monitor the dog.

Civil Matter

On Jan. 8, Officer Juan Castilleja was dispatched to the 600 block of Upton where complainant’s daughter had slipped on wet floors at the laundry and there were no signs posted about wet floors.

Criminal Trespass

On Jan. 10, Officer Frank Parkinson responded to the 1300 block of Russek in regard to a fired employee making threats.

Disturbance

On Jan. 8, Officer Hailee Vincent responded to the 400 block of Summit for a disturbance that involved a baby in a vehicle. Officer pulled the vehicle over and the parties were separated.

Suspicious Person/Vehicle

On Jan. 8, Vincent responded to the 14 block of N. Kessler for a suspicious person. Officer made contact and couple advised their car was overheating and they advised they are sleeping in their car and usually park at Pilot.

On Jan. 10, Officer MD Krenek was dispatched to the 25 block of N. Kessler in regard to a suspicious person. The clerk advised she struck up a conversation with two customers and they told her they were from Oklahoma and that he takes immigrants from McAllen to different places and that he is affiliated with MS13 and other Mexican gangs and it pays good. Upon officers arrival the subjects were leaving. Officer did not know the details of the call until after they were gone.

On Jan. 12, Vincent responded to the 1100 block of James for a suspicious person outside complainants house.

On Jan. 12, Castilleja observed a suspicious vehicle at the sports complex in the 300 block of Schwartz.

Traffic Stop

On Jan. 8, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 900 block of N. Kessler for a defective headlamp. The driver was issued a citation for no drivers’ license.

On Jan. 9, Officer Byron Powe stopped a driver in the 1100 block of James for a defective taillight. Driver received a warning for tail light and expired registration.

On Jan. 9, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Driver received a citation.

On Jan. 9, Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone going 39 in a 25. Driver received citations for speeding and no insurance.

On Jan. 9, Powe stopped a driver in the 400 block of Summit for running a red light. Officer conducted a search and located a small amount of marijuana and disposed of it on scene. Driver received citations for running red light and expired registration.

On Jan. 9, Harden initiated a stop for defective brake lights in the 14 block of N. Kessler. Driver received a citation for driving while license suspended.

On Jan. 9, Powe stopped a driver in the 14 block of N. Kessler for expired registration. Driver received a citation.

On Jan. 9, Powe stopped a driver in the 700 block of N. Kessler for expired registration. Driver received a citation. On Jan. 10, Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone going 35 in a 25. Driver received a citation.

On Jan. 10, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for expired registration. Driver received a citation.

On Jan. 10, Powe stopped a driver for speeding in the 100 block of Kessler and for an obscured license plate. Driver received a citation for no drivers’ license, obscured license plate and no insurance and unauthorized reproduction purchase use or sale of temporary tag.

On Jan. 10, McFadden stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding.

On Jan. 13, McFadden stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Citations were issued for speeding in a school zone.

On Jan. 12-Vincent stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for driving without lights when required. Driver issued citation for expired drivers license.

On Jan. 13, Krenek stopped a driver in the 800 block of S. Kessler for speeding. Driver issued a warning for speeding and a citation for no insurance.

On Jan. 14, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for no front license plate. Driver received warnings for no front license plate and operating a vehicle without registration insignia.

On Jan. 14, Powe stopped a driver in the 300 block of Kessler for no front license plate. Driver received a citation for expired registration.

On Jan. 14, Krenek stopped a driver in the 800 block of S. Kessler for speeding. Driver was issued citation for speeding and no drivers’ license.
