American Legion Holding Raffle to Purchase Flags

Shelby American Legion Post 602 is raising money to place the five military flags on the square in Fayetteville. They have a raffle for an American eagle with flag quilt going on now. The quilt is on display at Fayetteville Bank in Fayetteville and tickets are available there.

Shelby American Legion has had great community support. During Lickskillet on Oct. 16, after all the official activities were finished, a few local musicians, Alvin Minarcik, John Minarcik, Aaron Gross and Ross Kovar, gathered and played for a few hours entertaining the crowd.

After playing, they counted the tip bucket and had $293 and discussed donating it to the flag project. Alvin Minarcik added seven dollars to make it an even $300. Then Andrew Gross matched that amount. In all $600 was raised for the flag project.

On Nov. 1, Alvin and Brenda Minarcik, representing the group, came to the American Legion meeting and presented the money for the flag project.

Fayetteville is a community of caring and supporting folks. The Shelby American Legion wants to thank all who contributed and support and honor the veterans who have served our community and country.
