AMEN Pantry Has Money, But Running Out of Food
La Grange’s AMEN Food Pantry continues to serve large numbers.
But according AMEN treasurer Garry Schellberg, the pantry has ample funds to purchase products from the Food Bank however, currently the Central Texas Food Bank does not have product to serve the needs of our pantry and all pantries across Central Texas. Simply stated the pantry is having difficulty purchasing the volume of products that are required. The Central Texas Food Bank indicates the situation should improve, however the shortage continues.
Items in need include the following: pork and beans, ranch style beans, oatmeal, pineapples, peaches, stew, canned chicken, dumplings, canned salmon, hamburger helper and saltine crackers. The pantry currently has an ample supply of green beans, peas, and corn.
The pantry served 280 families for the month of March for a total of 837 individuals. A total of 138 volunteers for 298 hours served the pantry. A total of 2,479 pounds of food was donated. The impact of inflation has caused more individuals to require food.
AMEN will staff on location to receive donations every Thursday from 10 a.m. till noon have. Drive to the side of the building at garage door area. There will not be any food distribution on Thursday. If possible, bring your produce during this time and early Monday mornings, an ideal time is 8:30 a.m. Donations are accepted on Monday morning while serving customers.
