A&M Mobile Clinic Makes First of its New Weekly Visits to Fayette County
The TexasA&M School of Nursing’s Mobile Care Clinic made its first visit to Round Top-Carmine High School last Friday. Students, faculty and community members will be able to access a variety of healthcare services through the clinic, which will visit the school weekly.
“We will be here one day a week and we will be servicing students, faculty and the community with primary care needs,” said Nicole Kroll, Assistant Director of Clinical and Outreach Affairs at Texas A&M School of Nursing. “We will be taking care of acute and chronic conditions, vaccines, physicals, DOT physicals, and screenings.”
The mobile clinic will also offer health education services to the school. In addition, the University will install a telehealth station with diagnostic equipment that will remain at the school when the mobile clinic is not onsite.
The mobile clinic will be staffed by nursing students under the direction of a licensed nurse practitioner. The mobile clinic allows Texas A&M to train nursing students while offering high-quality healthcare in underserved rural areas like Round Top and Carmine. The clinic will also visit schools in Burton, Brenham, Hearne, Iola and Leon. The clinic accepts private insurance, medicare, medicaid, and accepts cash payment on a sliding scale based on income.
“Our goal is to not turn anyone away,” Kroll said.
RT-C School Nurse Linda McCulloch called the mobile clinic a blessing.
“It’s going to give much better access to healthcare in the community,” McCulloch said. “We’re so limited in urgent care services in this area. They’re going to do school physicals during the school day so parents don’t have to take off work. It’s going to be a really big benefit.”
She said the clinic will be able to treat teachers for minor illnesses that may have kept them away from work previously. Parents must sign a consent form for the clinic to treat their children. For more information about the Mobile Care Clinic, contact the school at (979) 249-3200.
