After 20 Years as La Grange Mayor, Moerbe Not Running for Re-Election
Buckle Up for Interesting Local Election Season; One Week Left to File for Positions on May 1 Ballot
The deadline to file for a place on ballots for municipal elections is next Friday, Feb. 12, by 5 p.m.
In La Grange, long-time Mayor Janet Moerbe announced this week she would not seek reelection. Her decision caps off a 33-year career in La Grange city government. She first won election to a seat on the City Council in 1988. In 2001, she became mayor.
“It’s been a great run,” Moerbe told the Record. “I’ve worked with some tremendous council people who have been interested in doing what’s best for the community. My biggest emphasis was investing in our children and their future.
“I won’t say I’ve enjoyed every minute, but I have enjoyed every year, watching the progress we made and seeing the support from citizens” Moerbe added. “It’s a great community.”
Moerbe said she plans to continue serving the community through volunteer activities. Look for more about Moerbe’s retirement in Tuesday’s paper.
