About 8-Percent Here Have Voted Early

Early voting started last week and more than eight percent of all registered voters in Fayette County have already cast ballots.

Fayette County Elections Administrator Terri Hefner reports that 1,380 people have voted in the Republican Primary as of Tuesday, Feb. 27. That amounts to 7.68 percent of the County’s 17,961 registered voters. Early voting locally has far outpaced the statewide Republican turnout, which stood at 3.96 percent as of Tuesday.

The local turnout is expected to be high in the Republican Primary with several important races on the ballot, including County Attorney; constable races in Precincts 2, 3, and 4; Fayette County Republican Party Chairman; a State House seat; and a race for U.S. Congress.

In the Democratic Primary, 146 Fayette County voters have cast ballots so far, a turnout of 0.81 percent. That compares to a 1.89 percent turnout for Democrats statewide.

There are no Democrats running for local office.

Election Day is March 5. Polls that day around the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
